About IERC

What is THE IERC?

The Illinois Education Retirement Consortium (IERC) is a collaborative governance framework through which K–12 school districts in Illinois work together to establish consistent, fiduciary-aligned retirement plan oversight.

By operating as a consortium, participating districts are able to standardize plan governance, reduce fragmentation, and access institutional-level structures that are often unavailable to small and mid-sized districts on their own.

The model emphasizes a consistent participant experience centered on clear financial education, transparent plan design, and responsible oversight rather than individual vendor-driven decisions.

IERC coordinates with independent professionals to support recordkeeping, compliance, and the ongoing evaluation and monitoring of investment options within a defined governance structure.

Why Ierc?

  •  Establishes a shared governance framework for retirement plan oversight

  • Aligns plan administration with applicable state and federal requirements

  • Reduces administrative complexity through standardized plan structures

  • Promotes transparent plan design and clear fee disclosure

  • Coordinates professional administration and independent investment oversight

  • Preserves district representation through consortium-level governance
